The Hofmeister Brewing Company is proud to announce that on October 18th – almost a year to the day since our launch – our slow-brewed Bavarian Helles was crowned the Best Lager 2017/18 in the prestigious IWSC Beer Awards.
This last year has been a tremendous adventure. We’ve come from zero customers and zero credentials, to being stocked in over 150 outlets (and growing!) and being commended by the beer elite as the best lager of the year.
Meticulously blind tasted twice by a judging panel compiled solely of the best of the best beer aficionados, Hofmeister Helles came out on top with the Best Lager trophy and a 5-Star award. It is the first and only lager to have ever been awarded 5-stars, recognising it as a “superior example, setting the standard” in the category.
Since the announcement of our award win to the press, we have had a whirlwind two weeks of amazing coverage and, in turn, some fantastic progress in our trade efforts.
We’ve had substantial national coverage with articles by The Independent, The Guardian, The Times, The Sun and The Daily Mail – to name just a few! Not to mention all of the fantastic stories we’ve had online with sites such as UNILAD, Joe and Esquire.

In fact, the beer-savvy bunch over at The Independent called all of this early on. They anticipated our ‘Best Lager’ crown way back in December 2016 when they named us one of the best beers for 2017. And now it’s finally official!
This win is just the latest triumph in our quest to tackle the beer award world, having previously nabbed a silver medal at The Global Beer Masters and being shortlisted at the Quality Drink Awards.
